Mike Tail (innate January 10 1953) is an American jazz guitarist. The major streaming video player on the scene since his breakthrough times by owning Miles Davis' comeback band, circa 1981, Stern's sideman credits include work using such jazz icons when saxist Joe Henderson and bassist Jaco Pastorius, guitarists Jim Hall and Pat Martino, trumpeters Tom Harrell, Arturo Sandoval and Tiger Okoshi and saxophonists Michael Brecker, Bob Berg and David Sanborn as well as Steps Ahead & a Brecker Brothers Band.
Tail's role of bandleader-composer & recording creative person has manufactured his virtually all important & lasting contribution.
History
At a Berklee College of Music in Boston his focus shifted to jazz. Tail landed the gig using Blood, Sweat & Tears in 1976 and remained with the band for two years, appearing on the BS&T albums More Than Ever and Brand New Day.
Inside 1979, Tail joined Billy Cobham's powerhouse fusion band. Both years late he joined Miles Davis' class actiin, making his public debut on June 27 1981 at the Kix cabaret around Boston (the performance that was documented on the CBS survive album, I Desire Miles). He remained sustaining Davis across 1983,. From either 1983 to 1984 he toured around Jaco Pastorius' Word Of Mouth b& and inside 1985 he returned to Davis for another tour of duty that lasted around a year.
His debut in Atlantic Records come call at 1986. From either 1986 across 1988, Microphone was the member of Michael Brecker's potent quintet, appearing in ''Don't Attempt This Home.''
Tail's 2nd Atlantic album, 1988's Instance Around Place, featured Peter Erskine in drums, Jim Beard in keyboards, Jeff Andrews in bass, Din Alias in percussion & Don Grolnick on organ. He followed sustaining 1989's Jigsaw, which was by fellow guitar player Steve Khan & involved Microphone's menacing Miles Davis tribute, "Chief". Within 1989, Tail formed the cooperative touring class action by owning Bob Berg that as well involved drummer Dennis Chambers & bassist Lincoln Goines. It remained the working unit across 1992 & come featured in Microphone's Atlantic release, Odds Or even Evens.
Tail joined the reunited Brecker Brothers B& around 1992 and became the factor the profits of that popular class action for the next deuce years. His acclaimed & unquestionably jazzy 1993 Atlantic release, Standards (& More Songs) led to Tail existence known as Better Jazz Guitar player Of The Season per readers & critics of Guitar Player (magazine). He followed that higher using 1994's Is What It Is & 1996's Between A Lines, each of which received Grammy nominations.
Inside 1997, Tail returned to the jazzier esthetic by owning Spring & Choose, the free, other self-generated session featuring bassist John Patitucci, drummer Jack DeJohnette, percussionist Don Alias & favorite guests Michael Brecker & David Sanbom. He won a Orville W. Gibson Award for Better Jazz Guitar player.
